This is my first Invader Zim fanfic, so i hope i did alright! Please enjoy!
The sky was dark. There were no stars out at all... No moon... The sky was an infinite expanse of foggy black. Clouds covered it and lightning streaked across the sky. Although there was no rain, the wind and thunder were frightening enough. There was only one light on ifn the town... One was still awake. It just so happened to be Dib, unable to sleep because of the racket outside. Trashcans blew around and cats yowled and other usually comfortable night time noises had become loud and frightening. He had his pillow over his head, trying to sleep, but a trash can blew into the side of his wall, making a loud "crash!" and this made him jump so violently, he fell off his bed. For a moment it was quiet again. The wind had died down for a few moments, then picked up again, then died down once more. Dib lay on the floor now, staring up at the celing, his glasses on the floor nearby. He slowly sat up and looked around for them. When he finally found the, he swore quietly. There was a small crack in the left lens. He put them back on anyway, getting up on his feet and putting some socks on, to keep his feet warm. He went into the lviving room and sat on the couch, taking his blanket with him. e wrapped it around himself, plopping down on the coush and turning on the TV. The weather report was on. Cloudy and rainy. Cloudy and rainy for the next month... 'how depressing...' Dib thought, rolling his eyes and was about to change thechannel when something came on that piqued his interest. He sat on the edge of the couch, stiff, his entire attention on the TV. It showed a slow motion video of a UFO, lights blazing and spidery mechanical legs coming out of the bottom as if it were about to land.
"The sky was lit up tonight by an unidentified spacecraft, going west this evening. The two young women who spotted it were able to film this by cellphone luckily before it went away. They described the sight as "unearthly and extraterrestrial". If there are any other sightings of this spacecraft, please phone in to us with preferably a photo or a video with proof. More about this story later..." The voice seemed to fade away for Dib. This was the kind of news Dib had ALWAYS wished would be on TV. And here it was. He ran to the door, snatching his trenchcoat off the coatrack and pulling it on, jumping into his boots and running out the door into the cold night. He held a camera in one hand, and a spyglass in the other. He wanted to be sure that he was the one to identify the spacecraft and prove he wasnt crazy. He sat out in the cold, waiting to see if the driver of the spacecraft was going to come this way. How long he sat there, he didnt know, but he must have dozed off because he was awoken suddenly by a loud "swashhh" sound. He looked up immediately, dazed and confused, but his wits returned immediately as he saw blazing purple and blue lights, coming from a huge spacecraft... It was the very image of futuristic technology. What confused the startled Dib, was that there were no creases in the thing... No signs of where a door could be. Perhaps it was a space probe from a foreign planet? Possibly. But he abandoned that thought when suddenly a door opened like a ramp on the side of the disk-like thing, and revealed that the inside was lit up very brightly with a whitish bluish light. Suddenly, a shadow showed at the door. A dark figure, about as tall as Dib, maybe a bit shorter, floated out, looking very placid. The figure's eyes were a light blue, but their other features seemed to be hidden. A white light shot out of its eyes, scanning the ground in front of it. When it had finished, its eyes flashed purple once, then it moved on. Dib was entirely entranced. This display was more than enough to show that the things he told people about were real. But he couldnt move. He was so surprized and afraid that he was frozen solid. Also, he'd been sitting in the cold in that position for who knows how long. He sat quietly, and watched as the little figure floated around, scanning things. Finally, it came toward Dib. He felt his heart leap. He wanted to scream, wanted to jump up and run, but he was indeed frozen solid. The robot, for that was what the thing was, floated up to him and looked down at him with large, slitted eyes. The white beam shot out and scanned over the human, up and down, twice. Finally, its eyes flashed green and it levitated in front of Dib for a brief moment. Then, silently and gracefully, it floated back over to the open door of the spacecraft, in which a whiteish mist was pouring out of. Dib watched in stunned silence as the robot landed on the ramp of the open door and said in a quiet yet metallic voice,
"The planet is fit for you to be on, mistress." And it stepped aside as another figure came to the door. This one was just a foot taller than the robot (but the robot was only two feet tall so it wasnt very big anyway), and its movements were more realistic, like somethnig that was actually alive. At this time, Dib's heart sped up and his thoughts raced. What was the extraterrestrial being like? Was it going to be friendly? Was it going to kill everything? Did it look pretty or just plain ugly? His thoughts all stopped immediately when he saw the creature. It was a she. And a very pretty she at that. The small, three foot tall creature had light spring green skin and large, round aqua green eyes, which were bordered by long thick black eyelashes. She had an intricate and detailed outfit on, and her long, curled black antennaes twitched a bit in the cold wind. She had a sort of thing on her back that had mechanical spidery legs coming out of it, and they had her suspened in midair, gripping gently to the sides of the doorway and the ramp. They held her up off the ground and took her out of the spacecraft. She looked around, blinking her large, pretty eyes and making a small "hmm?" sound when she noticed Dib sitting there, legs folded neatly upward and arms around them. He certainly got her attention AND interest. 'There are advanced life forms on this planet...? I was told that they were primitve...' She thought. The spider legs carried her over to Dib and lowered her down just a bit, to his level. She tilted her head to the side. Her aqua green orbs met Dib's chestnut brown eyes, and the girl Irken felt entranced. She reached out to touch him, her gloved hand trembling very slightly. A sudden rush of adrenaline cascaded through Dib, and he threw his camera to the side almost subconciously, to be able to use both his arms, and he scrambled backward, getting about six yards away from her in three seconds. This sudden action made the alien girl jump back, drawing her powered up Irken pistol and pointing it at him. Dib breathed heavily, anxiety showing in his expression and in his actions. He scooted back a bit more. The girl slowly lowered her gun and crawled toward him. She opened her mouth to speak, and began speaking in Japanese.
"Konichiwa-" She only got this far before Dib murmured,
"Huh....?" The girl blinked.
"Oops, sorry, was that the wrong language? Its just your human languages are so simple i couldnt remember which one was right. Is this better?" She asked, speaking in english this time. Dib nodded numbly. The girl smiled.
"Good. Now may i ask you, my-uhh.... Good... umm... Person, is there a place around here in which i may park my craft?" Dib pointed to an empty lot across the street where a house had once been. Now it was just tall green grass. The girl smiled.
"Will do perfectly. Nice to meet you... Umm..."
"Dib." He said. The alien girl looked at him, then smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Dib. I'll see you later." She said and crawled back into her spacecraft. The robot followed, and the ramp/door closed behind them. Dib watched in amazement and surprize as the futuristic spacecraft lifted a few feet off the ground and hovered slowly over to the empty lot, fitting neatly in between the two houses on either side of it. It slowly let the small mechanical legs on the bottom out again to land safely, and once done, the lights died down and this disk-like rings around the outer side of it stopped spinning. Then, there was a loud humm of an engine runnung and it began to transform, mutilating itself until it looked like a regular human house. It was silent and still for a moment, then the top bedroom light turned on and Dib could see the female alien's sillouhette through the curtains. Her shadow looked as if it were in the act of getting dressed into pajamas. Dib was still for a moment, then got up and walked back inside numbly, dropping his camera and his jacket by the door, not even bothering to put them away, and went into the hallway, getting a few thick, warm blankets out of the closet and going to his room, not even bothering to take off his boots. He left them on as he plopped down on his bed, pulling at least three blankets over himself and snuggling in. He lay there for a few seconds, then slowly took off his glasses and set them down on a nearby desk. Once again, the only sound was the wind, and the other sounds of night. The wind had died down alot, and things were more quiet. It would seem that Dib would get NO sleep after the previous event, but surprizingly, he slept better than he had in a long time, his deep dreams full of the mysterious and mystical alien girl, and her obediant and loyal robot. He had no idea that tomorrow, a nightmare would await him at school...
Dib woke up to the loud "screeekkkk!!!!" of his alarm clock. He pawed at it with his hand, accidentally batting it off of the table. It continued to screech and make a ton of noise as it rolled under the desk. Dib growled, and rolled over, drool sticking to his cheek in dry patches and sticking to his pillow. He drooled in his sleep last night... He accidentally rolled off of the bed and fell onto the ground, letting out a loud grunt as he hit the ground. He opened his eyes and his muddled morning vision was just able to make out that it was almost seven thirty. Immediately awake, Dib got up onto his hands and knees and grabbed his alarm clock out from under teh desk, attempting to get up, but hit his head on the bottom of it, making everything on the desk nearly fall off. He kneeled under the desk and rubbed his head, muttering curses silently, then crawled out from under it, throwing his blankets back on his bed and turning the alarm clock off. He dashed to his closet and pulled out a pair of pants, putting them on after taking off his pajamas. He smiled inwardly. His boots were still on. It took skill to be able to put on pants while wearing shoes. He struggled out of his pajama shirt, but got it stuck on his head, over his eyes, and he ran around, unable to see where he was going. He accidentally ran into the side of the doorway, falling backward. For a few moments, he struggled madly to get it off. It was at this moment that Gaz walked by, already ready for school. She stood in the doorway, staring at her brother for a moment, before walking on, muttering,
"Moron." Dib finally yanked the shirt off and lay on the floor, panting. He frowned at the celing.
"Gosh dangit!" He shouted and got up, running back to his closet and pulling out a shirt, slipping it on and snatching his glasses off of the desk before running out of the room, hopping on one foot as he tried to tuck the bottom of his pantlegs into his boots. He stumbled into the kitchen, putting a peice of bread in the toaster and turning it on. Finally, Dib ran out into the hallway and grabbed his coat off of the ground, putting it on. By then his peice of toast had already popped out of the little machine, and was lying on the counter, getting cold. Dib came in and picked it up, putting the edge of it in his mouth as he grabbed his backpack and went back into the hallway. Gaz was walking out the door, but Dib got caught in it as she closed it, getting wedged in between the door adn the doorway.
"Ga-aaazzz..." He moaned. She turned around and kicked the door open again, sending Dib sprawling onto the ground. He picked himself up, unhurt, and closed the door. Gaz was already on the bus, and it was starting to leave when Dib dashed out to it, waving his arms wildly.
"WAIT! Dont go!" He shouted. The bus stopped and Dib jumped on quickly, trying to ignore the looks of disgust and whispers the kids made as he passed. Finally he found a seat... By Zim. Slowly he sat on the edge of the seat, as far away from the little alien/boy as possible. Zim glared at him out of the corner of his eye and made a "hmph" sound. The entire ride to school was silent between the two, a sharp contrast to every other kid on the bus, socializing and talking about video games and tv shows they liked, and other useless junk. Finally, the ride was over and Dib got off the bus, followed by Zim, who had the same class as him. Zim muttered something about the "filthy Dib-human" as he passed Dib. Poor Dib knew his entire day was going to be a wreck... like always. But he stopped in his tracks, alongside Zim, when they entered the classroom and saw something definitely out of the ordinary.
